Yay! Done! We're happy! Wille's super happy!
When we asked Wille he only had a few requests regarding his new desk and we did our best to accomodate them. Printer to be placed underneath desk top, drawer for pencils and papers and plenty of empty space on top. The empty space to be used for doing homework, eat snacks (and occasional lunches and dinners when totally immersed in World of Warcraft) etc.
Said and done. Printer underneath, empty space on top.
This was our first attempt ever to fit a drawer. We used a kit which provides you with the sides and the track which the drawer runs on and you add the drawer front, bottom and back. I love how it turned out. In our case no handle is needed, Wille can pull at the bottom of the drawer.
Inside we added cutlery compartments for pens, pencils and office supplies. To the left there's space to put papers. There was a similar drawer on Wille's old desk and that's where we'd chuck all papers lying about and once in a while Wille would sort it and get rid of whatever was no longer needed.
Under the desk the printer sits on a podium and next to it two magazine holders are filled with printer paper. The computer on the other hand sits on a skateboard looking thingy. The reason for the wheels is that occasionally we need to pull it out to check one or two of the myriad of cables. I wish I would never have to poke my head in there but that would be utopia…
I really love that we're able to build things ourselves. We did a test fitting of the desk top and realised it was too long on one side so we deciced to chop 15 cm / 6" off and now it's the perfect size for the space. That would have been tricky if it were store bought.
