Chez Larsson

Ok, enough about the kitchen for one week. I just haveto tell you about my donkey Grissy.

When I was two (many, many, many  years ago) I got a Steiff donkey from my parents. I played with it a lot and it's been with me for all this time. During the past ten years though I've just moved it around in our basement (it's not something you can easily store in a box…) and since Wille wasn't very interested in it when he was young and has no sentimental attachment to it I've been wanting to sell it for some time and this week I did.

We have a website called Blocket over here which is similar to Craigslist in the US and I put Grissy up for sale there. A nice lady called and wanted to buy him and I was really pleased.

It turns out this lady is involved in the Swedish Donkey Society, we're talking real live donkeys here, and she has a Donkey museum! Grissy will be part of her little exhibition. Isn't that the cutest and best way for my old pal to get a new home?! Hey, I can even go visit if I want to!

Mini & Bonus update:

Mini is doing much better. Thank you all who keep asking about her. She really feels special with all this international attention! We're still feeding her with the tube but hopefully after her next check up on Wednesday she'll get the appointment with the dentist to have her teeth fixed so she can eat normally again. On Wednesday they will sedate her and do an X-ray and check that the jaw has healed properly. I'm really anxious for her to get rid of the tube because this little princess does not want to stay indoors any longer. She sits by the kittky door and wants out. Now!

Bonus comes inside more often but he still thinks his sis smells funny and I think he's jealous (not) of her pretty red scarf… He hisses at her when they get to close to each other but it's slowly getting better. I think as soon as she gets rid of her "stuff" it'll be ok.

A couple of things that this accident has done for our litte family is that it has brought Bonus closer to Martin (he used to be a bit cross with Martin for not letting him up on the kitchen counters while cooking) and it has made Mini a bit more manageable, this lady did not like to be carried at all, but now we can carry her around a (little) bit without her freaking out completely. Every cloud does have it's silver lining.

Have a great weekend you guys!

Great solution for Grissy! I’m glad he (she?) went to a good place – we do worry about our loved ones, don’t we? Wish my parents had known about Steiff when I was little 🙂
Yay Mini! And Bonus, hang in there!

  • ana v. says:

Grissy is very luky, fantastic place to him.

  • sadie says:

I’m so happy that Grissy made it to such a great “greener pasture”. I’m also happy that Mini is healing well. This is an unimportant question, but are her teeth ok? Will she have to switch to a wet food diet?

  • Anne says:

    Trevlig helg!

  • Dugi says:

    lovely photo of u there.
its great that donkey is going to be preserved in the museum.
i love your site, your home, your thoughts and ideas.
But I’m sure glad we are past the kitchen drawers. hehe

  • Misty says:

Glad to hear Grissy went to a great new home full of love and appreciation!
Good to see Mini is on the mend too! Hopefully things go well with the vet and she can start getting back to her old self.

  • Goneril says:

What a cute picture of you as a little girl! Great donkey, they don’t make ’em like that anymore, (well maybe Steiff still does). Thank you for the Mini update, she looks so sweet in that picture, like she is just totally immersing herself in tender loving care.

  • Håller tummarna för att de hittar det som ska hittas och knipsar noga! Ouch! Kram till hela familjen!

  • They will shorten one or two of her teeth because her jaw isn’t even any more, her long canine teeth are hitting each other so she can’t close her mouth properly now. We’re hoping that this dental work will enable her to eat all kinds of foods eventually but I suspect that she’ll have to eat wet food only to begin with. As far as I’m concerned she can have anything she needs and likes as long as she gets rid if the tube :).

  • I love your story about the donkey. You should turn it into a lovely children’s book.
And I’m glad to hear mini is doing well…

  • That’s such a great idea! I’ll ask Martin to start drawing right away :)!

  • Jenifir says:

I am excited for you that Grissy is going to a retirement home with visiting hours. Maybe if Martha visits Sweden she will meet him/her(?) too as I would think she would visit a Donkey Society Museum. Keep us posted about Mini and Bonus; we are relieved to hear things are progressing well and that there are silver linings.

  • How great for you and Grissy! I wonder if there is a moose museum somewhere for my beloved Fluffy and Muffy. Mini looks very sweet and I’m glad things are going as planned.

  • She would, wouldn’t she 🙂 I’m sure she would want to meet Clive’s and Rufus’s cousin Grissy!

  • Ana says:

Glad to hear about Mini! Maybe she should be an indoor cat now?

  • Oh, I doubt that she’ll agree to that… but a healhy fright against the street would be nice…

  • Noelia says:

Glad to hear such good news about your family ( donkey included)! I was amazed at what great conditions Grissy is! If i had something for that long it would be at least dirty!!!

  • valeria says:

Oh my, Benita what a beautiful little girl! I am so glad that Mini’s ordeal may soon be over. Have you ever considered something like this tunnel ? You can add a gazebo or other tunnels and she and Bonus would be safe outside… or you could make one with chicken wire and wood… my Alfie was not lucky and did not survive his car encounter 🙁 xxx

  • Maaret says:

Oh this donkey story is too cute.Such a happy end!
And I’m happy that Mini is doing well!

  • Annapolitan says:

Add my voice to those who are cooing over that cute little girl in the photo! Just darling!

  • Marion says:

Get well soon, little Mini. Out cat had some dental operation last month, too :-/ But now he’s so happy he can eat again 🙂
    All the best!

  • Hollie says:

I’ve not commented before, but feel must because I’ve fallen in love with Mini!
My cat Salvador got blocked (bladder crystals)and had to spend the night at the vets and came home very sick needing special attention, not as much as Mini, but I spoiled him good. My other cat Inertia (I think) believed when Sal left, he was gone for good. And was extremely angry when her dream was shattered. It took 3 months for her not to growl when she saw him, but I am happy to report they tolerate each other very well. So Bonus will come around… eventually.

  • Alex says:

Aaaaahhh…I just came back from Japan and found out about Mini :((( I’m glad she’s doing better now, it must have been tough for her! Hugs for Mini from the sunny Berlin (this would’ve been the right time to visit us ;))

  • I’m afraid our kitties are too used to wandering about on their own. I don’t think either of them would feel allright in those… I guess we should have started out with something like it when they were babies.
    ~ Benita

  • Jenifir says:

Hollie,It may not have been a shattered dream. When one of our cats got out and was out for many hours, our other cat growled at him for several days. The vet told him it was because he smelled different ( a little earthy. Joe likes to get out whenever he can but he is quite afraid when he suceeds(especially after aforementioned incident). We live very close to a busy road so they must be indoor cats. Fortunately, Clara has no interest in escaping. What is your other cats name. Jenifir

  • jja says:

Steiff rules 🙂 and I am glad to hear good news about the cat lady 🙂

  • Clean Simple says:

So glad to hear Mini is doing better. Kitty hugs to her from the U.S.

  • Stephanie says:

Oh, that’s wonderful that the Beloved Grissy is going to the Donkey museum!
Glad to hear about Mini as well.

  • K says:

Ohhh, I was hoping we could see more of the kitchen drawers! 🙂
    I’m glad Mini’s doing better.
And what good news that you can visit your donkey any time! A much better arrangement, I think, than letting some three-year-old mangle it to bits and pieces. I’m having a hard time letting go of my children’s baby toys — they’re ages three and five, and I’ve personally got sentimental attachment to a lot of them. *sigh*
