Project 52: Week 25

Week 25

It’s been warm and summery over here which is so nice. Wille’s been with me at work where he’s doing a four week project sorting images for the company web sites. After work we’ve kicked off our shoes and have had dinners outside for the most part. When not we’ve been re-watching Friends, agreeing that NO other TV series compares. It is THE best ever, we laugh so hard all the time.

Oh and the beer, I couldn’t resist when I found an IPA from Brooklyn Brewery at the liquor store. I bought it because of the Brooklyn provenance but as I brought it home Wille told me that apparently IPA is the hipster drink du jour. Anyway, he enjoyed it!

This week coming up is my last one at work before a three week vacation. I can’t wait to have a bit of time off! Have a good week you guys!

  • How nice to have Wille with you this week!
I agree with you wholeheartedly about Friends. I rewatch it all the way through every single year. On season 9 now!

  • Susan says:

Friends is classic – so many great lines that I can start chuckling just thinking of them. Especially Joey and Phoebe.
I do love a good IPA and they are extremely hard to find here in Zurich (unless you go to a fancy department store and pay an arm and a leg) – so I do look forward to enjoying a cold one when I go home to the States for a visit.
Funny thing is, I saw this brand at the Coop just the other day – I think I will have to try it now 🙂

  • claudia says:

re-watching friends again right now, too, and am amazed how great that show still is! Really funny, after all those years..
    Have a nice summer!

  • Emma says:

Now in the north the weather is better than in the south.

  • Emma – Not sure if that’s the case right now but it does happen sometimes and it IS a bit odd :).

  • Jane says:

Totally agree about Friends! Historically my favourite ever show has been M*A*S*H but Friends is a very close second for me. Enjoy your holiday!

  • Michelle of Montreal says:

Was just down in San Diego with some beer-loving friends and amongst local breweries it was wall-to-wall IPA beers. Not my taste though, especially for hot weather.

  • Lori says:

Another Friends lover here – I got hooked while nursing my baby daughter and now – almost 15 years later – she has watched them all the way through with me multiple times… and is indoctrinating all her own friends. (She has me watching How I Met Your Mother now, which I somehow missed over the last 8 years – not the same as Friends, but I’m laughing pretty frequently!)

  • Lori – We also watch HIMYM and it’s great but it doesn’t compare to Friends 🙂

  • Robyn :) says:

There was a kid in the summer school class I worked in named Chandler. I asked him if he was named after anyone and he said “yes, Chandler on Friends”. I thought that was awesome lol. I have been catching reruns on TV, too

  • Anna says:

Obviously it’s much cooler there, but it’s 32° and terribly humid here… Can’t face an IPA in this weather. We drink it in the winter, though. Love it.

  • Julie says:

I know you’ve been asked this before, but I don’t remember how much vacation and holiday time your job allows. Here in the U.S. I find it oppressive. I don’t mind at all working full-time, and work hard, but I would feel so much better if I knew I had a decent amount of time off. When I worked in the non-profit sector, I had quite a bit (about 33 with vacation and holidays, plus around 10 sick days), but I didn’t particularly like the jobs. Most jobs have two weeks (10 days) the first seven years, then three weeks up to 15 yrs, then 4, and 6 holidays/yr. I think your country and most of Europe have got it right. Research shows that people are more productive on the job when they have adequate time to relax and recover off the job.

  • Heather P. says:

Glad to hear you’re enjoying the nice weather, and Wille!
Yeah, IPA’s are kind of the hipster beer now…but I hear they’re also very good, so maybe the hipsters are on to something. 😉

  • roberta hovde says:

If you and Wille like Friends, you might also want to try the Big Bang Theory.

  • Emma – Not sure if that’s the case right now but that does happen sometimes and it IS a bit odd :).
Julie – 5 weeks (25 days)off is standard over here. I get 6 weeks where the 6th is to compensate for any overtime which I don’t get paid for. I know of the standard two weeks in the US and that’s just crazy!

  • Judith says:

I’ll chime in on Friends too. The BEST! We’re re-watching it right now too and still laugh ourselves silly at so many parts. A great Friends memory we have is from when Brittany was little – whatever night it aired was also “kids eat free” night at a local pizza place that happened to have a big-screen TV, so that was our Mom and daughter date night. Friends and pizza, you can’t really get much better than that 🙂

  • Sandy (USA) says:

Love those ikea vases! So clean looking. BTW – Your vacation time off is only a dream here in the US. The Swedish company my husband works for here in the US, doesnt shut down except for our major holidays and of course weekends while On your end they shut down for 4 weeks. We get burnt out. Kudos to you guys! You know how to enjoy life! 🙂

  • Sandy – Nowadays most companies actually stay open all summer long and everyone’s holidys are spread out so there are a few people holding the fort at all times. At our office most people tend to take three to four weeks in July but some have their holiday in August or prefer to take a month off in Winter time. I love that we’re able to choose!

  • devil says:

We watch all 10 seasons of Friends once a year, too. Big Bang Theory is a close second-favorite for us.
I noticed a food server’s lobster tattoo and she said it was a Friends reference. I immediately did Phoebe’s lobster-claw walk across the table with my hands and the waitress nodded enthusiastically. All of us Friends fans just get it, don’t we?
    Enjoy your much-deserved time off!

  • sunny says:

Some favorite episodes include the paste pants episode, the one where joey and ross take a nap, the one where Chandler isn’t allowed to make fun of anyone (same as the past pants one?), the one where Joey thinks he knows how to speak French, and the episode with the proposal (chandler & monica) has me tear up every time.
Seems i need to re-watch Friends now too!
    What are your favorite episodes?

  • Sunny – I agree, those are so funny. Wille and I also love the one where Joey eats jam 🙂

  • E. says:

Hey, the lawn looks wonderful! So nice to walk on cool grass. It is all ready for your vacation.
The only recognizably hipster beer over here is PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon). (Ugh.) (Whoops, must be nearly over, now that Time magazine has noticed it…) Good for Wille, having better taste!

  • Mal says:

Hi, I didn’t know IPA was fashionable now, it is a summery drink here from the days of the Indian Raj (India Pale Ale) My grandad used to have it on hot days, it makes me think of him in pub gardens, when he’d get us orange juice and crisps. My parents never took us to pubs, so we loved this, and it was a huge treat, both when we visited grandparents, and when they visited us.
    Happy weedend, Mal
