What a great idea! I love your site--I peek at work, and by the time I get home I have a new idea for cleaning or organizing. I'd love to see a book about organizing!

Lizzy

I would love to read a book by you about the connection between home and family. It could include organizing, decorating, self-sufficiency (DIY), gardening (You wrote once that Wille wanted to move out of the apartment b/c he wanted to play outside), routines (bill-paying, cleaning, laundry), etc.

Alison

If you wrote a book about "Benita All Around The House" you could cover organising AND decorating, with DIY projects scattered throughout the book. My favorite home books are organised by parts of the home, like kitchen, bathroom, office, etc...

Jaime

I would definitely go with a book on organization! You have such a unique way of organizing items in the home and it would be great to see a room by room "how to" and what should and shouldn't be in each room. I struggle with organizing on a daily basis and never know where anything is in my own home. Organize Organize Organize!!

darbi

ORGANISING! Hands down!
You have no idea how you've inspired me to get on top of things! I think one thing naturally leads to another, and once you get started on writing about organisation, your other topics of DIY and decorating will develop into chapters of their own, just by nature of your style.
How exciting, congratulations!

Loppran

Organizing is the subject for the book, definitely! You´re so talented in that area. Beautiful, budget and brilliant. :)

Katherine

Yes to "Benita all around the house" -- with lots of pictures of your lovely home!

Rachel

It is too much to ask for a series of books?
Organizing, DIY, Decorating, etc. I love the many topics you cover on your blog, no matter what you write about, it is always well-connected to the others. If I had to pick just one topic (perish the thought!) it would probably be organizing. Everytime I flip through your flickr photos, I feel inspired to declutter my home again... And knock down a wall... And build a shelf... you get the picture.

Christopher

Oh you're so good at organization. I'd love to see you do a book on de-cluttering and innovative ways to make your life more efficient and more beautiful.

Rachel

How about a lifestyle book? Bring all of your talents together...design, organization, decorating...all of it!

I turned a friend on to your blog and, knowing how much I *LOVE* your blog and products, she just surprised me with a set of your notecards. I am SOOOO excited about this! They're ADORABLE! I'll be framing them and hanging them in my bedroom!

Your book is going to ROCK. I can't wait!

kellyt

Don't know if this helps but here's what I really love about your blog (and in turn, what I would love to see in your book)

1. Your clean, scandinavian styled, way of decorating (your work station should be on the cover; I salivate every time I see it);

2. Your ways of organizing even the tiniest part of your house;

3. Your do-it-yourself attitude. This has probably been the most inspirational part for me. Seriously, I've done more to my house these past few months than I have done all year and I have to say it's probably 90% your fault!!!!

Good luck. How exciting!

Maria

I have to agree with (almost) everybody else. I would definitely buy a book about organizing if you go on writing about it in the inspiring way that you do. Great idea!

sam

i'd buy your organizing book in a heartbeat!

denise

Thanks for your blog. I enjoy it immensely!! About your book, rather than search for a publisher, how about DIY? Write an e-book! It seems to be a simpler process and more lucrative; it is right up your alley.

Caroline

Organization!!!! And DIY!

Härligt med bokdrömmar! Du kommer säkert få många köpare. Här är en som redan "köpt" din blogg! :)

/Caroline

Stephanie

Benita, You are an amazingly gifted individual! and are an inspiration! to those of us who struggle on a daily basis to keep our homes & lives in order. I would most definitely vote in favor of your FIRST! book being about organizing as your vision is so unique to anyone that I've seen so far (and I've checked out everything my library offers!). I would agree with Rachel that a series of books would be fantastic. You could begin with organizing & then write about the other subjects you mention (but always keeping that organizing theme running through each). I also think as readers of your blog, we're all wondering how you organize each day, how do you get things done? Stephanie

Sally

Frankly, I'd buy whatever book you wrote. I love your simple style! I agree with the many people above who want a little bit of everything, tho.

lauri

I have been a fan since your flickr days. My favorites by you are how you organize the everyday items and make it look so simple. Your little broom closet, love it.....your desk, love it. How you ripe your magazines and file them, I do that too now. I looked at my little bathroom closet and tried to figure out how you would organize it. Of course you have to sprinkle in little tidbits to help up decorate also. Can I preorder on Amazon yet?

Carola

i'd love that book about organizing but i would buy any benita-book without knowing the title or topic!

Tessa

Organising! I need lots of ideas as 'tidy' is not something I do very well.

Robin Kelly

I think you could write about any one of your many talents and be successful. What appeals so much to me about your blog is that you have a keen ability to focus on "essentials" -- your point of view has helped me tremendously in my quest to pare down our belongings and display even the most mundane collections in a way that makes them interesting.

Best of luck with your endeavors -- I have no doubt that you will be successful. I think a format of showing your house and then taking on some of the more common organizational/stylistic challenges in others' homes and doing a "before and after" would be great.

Marie

Something along the lines of Benita´s Lifestyle. Maybe an empire will be born, just like Martha´s.
Mmmmmm, although for that you should add some cooking. Let´s leave it there.

Best luck! Looking forward to reading your book, you think I could get it here in Buenos Aires?

TheOtherMonkey

What a great idea! first of all, I agree with Stephanie, please could you tell us how you organise your day?
I think a book on lifestyle with lots of 'before and after' pictures with plans, organising tips and ideas would be wonderful.
I am sure this will be the first of many great books from you.
Good luck!

kirstie

I think there is a gap in the market for a book on DIY. However, to be absolutely honest I would buy a book that just had pictures of your kitchen shelves.

kirstie

I can also tell you where I would buy the book. I would buy it from a display in the Ikea restaurant and I would read it while eating meatballs and I would then go and spend loads of money in Ikea.

Sofia

Rosa

Why can't it be all three that you proposed. I love decorating, organizing and DIY. Just today, I was trying to figure out a way to organize my children's homeschooling work by using Cereal boxes as a magazine holder, pretty paper to decorate, and then figure out where to put the boxes with the contents in them. I wish you the best of luck in your quest. Can't wait to hear more in the future.

memmu

Your blog and your pictures are so wonderful!!! I really like your truly organized home and how you just make almost anything you need. Your organizing and DIY skills are fabulous and those are the subjects that would make a great book. I'd buy it, that's for sure!

devil

I think your first book should be much like your blog - directions on how to organize a particular space with lots of photos to demonstrate. Someone above suggested a room-by-room theme, which sounds great.

Personally, I prefer a tangible book to an e-book. I want to carry this around and look at the pictures and show them to other people. It's just not the same reading a book (or even a blog) on the internet. That's why you, of all people, really do need to write a book.

Most of all, enjoy the process!

Hummmlan

/Hummmlan

Jean

I was just thinking about you as I checked out two Martha books from the library - Good Things from Tag Sales and Flea Markets and Simple Home Solutions. Although I know both will be interesting to thumb through, I was thinking how I thought you could do a better job of providing specific info.

I would love an organizing book that included LOTS of detailed photos, which you already do a great deal of with your blog. It would be terrific to havephotos of specific organizing areas, such as "the kitchen drawer," "toiletries," or "dresser drawer." {Again, you've covered much of this in your blog!} Photos of your organized shelves/drawers are so inspirational. They're like "eye candy."

For me personally, your most inspirational post was the one on how you edited/saved articles/ideas from magazines. So it would be great for your book to include specific strategies and tactics for similar issues.

glenda

I think of you as the new MARTHA because although I've always liked Martha I've also felt alienated from her. I know in the back of my mind she has a 'STAFF' to get all those projects done. But you are empowering women all on your own and showing us we can build stuff and do all kinds of things. I have even commented to people that I kind of think of you as a friend even though I'll never meet you in person!! I think you should do as others have suggested -a broad spectrum book. Then the the following books could become more focused. I am really wanting to build stuff but am too scared to use an electric saw-so I would love to see a book on how to use power tools without injury. Wow this is great news!!!!

Jessica

Benita, I would honestly buy any book written by you! I love your blog. What appeals to me most about your blog is your can-do attitude and knack for simplifying. So, I think a lifestyle book that could cover organizing, DIY, and decorating would be great. They are all related anyway! I think it would be neat to see how projects evolve for you - like how you may begin a project by paring down some belongings, then organizing them, then building storage for them, and finally focus on display/decor around those belongings. I am also, like many of your readers, VERY interested in time management and would love some insight into your daily life and how you get it all done. I'm really proud of you for taking this step - I can't wait to read the finished book!

Jean

Almost as soon as I hit "post" I had some other thoughts. I think the word I was looking for before, but couldn't summon, was "projects." The photos, before and after, of your projects are a must for the book.

I'd also like to see lists and checklists such as "laundry and cleaning equipment," "food storage," or "essential furniture building tools" (which you've already done!) with photos of the equipment and tools included. I'm a big fan of DK Publishing books because of their photos.

What will make your book unique is your design aesthetic.

Ksenia in Canada

Yay Benita! You can do this! I really like the suggestions to start with a "lifestyle" book that covers organizing, decorating, styling, decluttering, and DIY. It's that blend that makes me such a loyal reader of your blog. The benefit of starting with a "lifestyle" book is that it leaves the door open for you to expand on organizing, decorating, etc. in more detail in future books. I think that your book will find its place on the bookshelf, real or virtual, because of how your interests and style seem to bridge the Atlantic ocean. To we North Americans, your Swedish style looks so fresh.

ellen

organizing + decorating + DIY! a lifestyle-type book, perhaps? Anything that's coming from your perspective would be most welcome :o)

Jay

Benita, Congratulations on your new endeavor! A book! That's wonderful! As Alison, a "Benita Around The House" type book, covering all the different rooms and various ways of organization, would be incredible. Also, as someone else mentioned, it is your unique design style and eye for detail that will make the book stand out. I will definitely buy a copy. Your blog posts and all the pictures of your home are so inspirational. And, just so you know, it's not just women that you are inspiring to organize their homes. I'm a man, and I doubt that I'm the only one that reads your blog. Again, Congratulations! I will be anxiously waiting for news about the book. Jay

Michelle

Dear Benita

That's a wonderful idea. I agree with all of the comments above especially your fresh Scandinavian style. You can make the most utilitarian space look beautiful.

I also appreciate your comments on marriage and how you and Martin compromise on things when you have a difference of opinion. That's such good advice. Good Luck!

Linda

I think you could write a book about "visual merchandising" in the home. Much along the same idea as the recent post you wrote on displaying items in the home.

Suzette

Organizing is great but with an emphasis on DIY. It is great to be able to organize with out spending a lot on supplies.

Emma

Basically - your blog in a book!

It seems as if all your readers, me included, love the organising aspect of your blog, the DIY - you are so clever and bold and your beautifully simple home styling - yet still having so many 'things' that reflect your personality and your lives.

You are extremely inspirational.

I also agree with Glenda about the Martha bit!!

Please sign me up for a copy!!

Emma

Kate

I echo everything said here - I'd buy your book in a heartbeat!

Possibly a new organizing/home book with an emphasis on your own home projects, which are so fabulous.

I also think a series of these books would be excellent - one on styling, one on organising the home etc. (You could even do one on 'kitchen', one on 'the study' etc - room by room?)

Good luck - I can't wait to see what you write!

Celine

Benita, I would love to buy your book. I really like the way you talk about organizing, decorating, gardening and even cooking. Everything is always perfect: perfect color on your desk, the little box that give a personal touch, the little cat playing..and so on. You are such a great inspiration. Do you realize that a lot of people are addiected to your blog searching solutions for their own home, their own life..I have never seen so much enthusiasm about a blog and a life style... the Skandinavian way ( The best in my opinion , I am French ) the Skandinavian people have a "Je ne sais quoi", so profound, natural way of life, always in connection with nature, they always show cozzy home, cozzy , comfortable clothes, comforting food too...Go you can do it!

Julie

I find myself getting excited while waiting for your blog to upload on my screen. I love coming here and would most definitely be interested in a book written by you, whatever you decide. I guess covering every subject you mentioned is a lot to ask?? :D

carol k

Hi Benita-
I think your gift to me, and to many others, is that you have shown me that organizing can be beautiful too! I will not organize anything if it does not look aesthetically pleasing. The artist in me loves the beauty more than the organizing. I come to your blog and photos because you do this so wonderfully. Plus I think you are funny, warm, and you have such an accessible quality. Martha Stewart leaves me cold. Her photos and how to, while informative, seem very contrived. I feel you have shown me that beauty and organizing CAN go hand in hand and you are real and your home is real , not something you dreamed up for a photo shoot. Book subject idea - the aesthetic and organized home. You are awesome-Carol k

Kyle

Organizing with just a dash of decorating tips.

Barb F (Australia)

This is so exciting for you Benita! As most of the other readers have said, I think a lifestyle book that includes information (and lots of pictures) on decluttering, organising and beautifying/decorating your home is the way to go. It's just like a natural extension of your blog. Surely any publishers out there would pick you up in a flash. Looks like you've pre-sold a heap of copies here already :)

Goodbye Martha, hello Benita!

Libby

How exciting. Definitely a book on organising, which would of course include some decorating.

Libby

smoore@kpcorp.com

Hello! I hope you choose stylish organization for your first subject!
I have read many books about organization and not liked many of them. The photos are usually too posed and don't look like "real people" occupy the spaces. Congrats on your opportunity!
Suz

AK

How about a lifestyle book with an emphasis on the Swedish asthetic. Fresh and beautiful pictures styled by you are a must. And definately some DIY and organization tips.Something that looks simple and stylish at the same time.

tay

What I like best about your home, Benita, and I think this would be a great theme for a book, is how you make it so beautiful and organized in the most economical way. There's no over-consumption, or a desire for more and more stuff, just a great aesthetic care and organization given to the basics of keeping life well-managed and loved ones happy.

I think Americans could really benefit from a book to see how well you do it, without spending a gazillion dollars. :)

tay

lindenhaus - california

You have the gift of organization, so that would be my vote for your book. But within that context, you could show your many DIY projects for attaining said organization. You could have wonderful photos of the rooms in your home. I think it would sell very well!

Susie

Go for it!!! I would love your book (which I would buy in a New York minute!) to cover: 1) your wonderful organizing tips, 2) your simple DIY projects, and 3) how you do it all on a budget. I'm so happy for you--good luck!

sunny

ahh..my original comment is lost. (my lovely computer EATS comments I think)

I agree with everyone here...the organizing aspect is divine. Your writing style, photographs and lifestyle lend themselves wonderfully to a book.

What excites you most about writing a book? What do you envision in the book?

Congratulations!! What an exciting time in your life!

Karen

What I love about yur style is that it's so simple and unpretentious. I am at a point where I want to pare down and live simply. That includes organization but it's really the calmness of your life and home that inspires me. You have created a lifestyle that relies on ones talent and creativity much more that money. Now that's inspiring!

Jorun

If the book turns out anything like the blog, I want to read it. And I really mean *read,* because I like your writing style as well as your decorating style. Of course I love the bright coloured pictures and clever how-to-series, but what makes me return to your blog is the almost-philosophy of decorating through organizing and displaying the items and activities of a family. In a pool of stylish pictures of what to buy, you bring me a delightful feeling that I can DO a lot.

Anne

With the organizing comes the DIY projects and because you are who you are the decorating will just be there as well.

Go Benita!!!!!

PS.

Alex

Definitely about organizing, decorating and DIY - those could even be the main categories in the book? A lot of gorgeous pictures is a must. The title would be "Living like Benita" or something like that.

Aaaah...it's so exciting! Could you make sure that I'll be able to buy it from Germany? :D

Nicola

Phew looks like you could write a few books!! I think a DIY book would be cool - you've got some great home-made furniture in your home. Good luck with the book!

Yvonne

Yvonne i Vasa, Finland

Joanser

Benita, the topic simply would be "Making a Home"-- which covers organizing, decorating, displaying, building, painting, and just about everything you've done to your lovely place there in Sweden. And all with a sassy Scandinavian slant. WOOHOO! I'll buy one or two or three RIGHT NOW. Keep up the good work.
Joan in Louisiana (Just promise me you'll stay with me when you come to the States for your book tour, ok?)

Helena

Great, great idea Benita.
I don´t know how many books you should write (one? three?) but the subjects must be on organization, DIY and decoration and with lots of beautiful photos of "real people homes" (I hate when I see decors only for the photo).
Think, think and go ahead with the project. Wish you the best! :)

Barb

Why not all three: organizing, decorating, and DIY? They're sort of inter-related, at least in my mind. (But if I had to choose just one, I'd say organizing.) Or what about living in a small space? That's something you're good at, too.

Julia S.

Since there are already a lot of books, magazines etc about DIY out there, i'd rather focus on organizing and decorating. a little do-it-yourself-action can however still be involved!
like, remember your blog about the candle holder lamp? i actually went to clas ohlson to buy a "lamphallare" - just in case ;-)
this was the perfect combination of decorating and DIY for me.

you could call your book "best of chez larsson" and collect all your best blog-entries for your readers ;-) (your kanellbullar absolutely have to be in there then, too!!)

whatever you decide to write about - i'm sure it will be great!

best! *julia

Sally, Australia

Wow and congratulations! I concur with all the other comments, a book with your excellent eye for detail - your explanations and detailed photo by photo instructions of how you do things would be great in a DIY/Home/Living book. I can't stand books that have lovely pictures but no substance so you are left wondering how on earth they did it! Benita, you have substance...that's your book!!

maddy

I am sure lots of people would buy your book. You have great talents, and a knack for explaining things well. I see it as many others have commented ...organizing with style, DIY projects, etc. For marketing in the US, definitely sell with the Scandinavian design concept. Someone mentioned a link up with Ikea--I think that would be wonderful. I could see your books in Ikea in America, for sure.

Good luck!

Sandra

Absolut om att organisera (men kanske på ett vackert sätt?). Det finns ju en del böcker om det, men de ska alltid dra in feng shui i det hela. Mer praktiska organiseringstips till folket! jag köper lätt den boken!

Erica

I not kidding when I tell you that I read this blog every day and look forward to every post.

Your DIY projects have been an inspiration to me. I haven't picked up a saw yet (and may never will), but it leads me to believe that easy and simple changes to your home can make a big difference. I love your design ideas too.

Good luck!

mrsH

Organization made beautiful, this is really the core of what draws me to your site. Your clean lovely photos highlight your excellent organization skills and ideas!

Februari

Jag skulle helt klart läsa en bok du skrivit! Kanske en kombination av origanisera och DIY, även med lite inredningstips. Det är saker som inte alltid går hand i hand men kan göra det, något jag tycker ditt hem visar på.

Thessa

I have to agree with Carol, paraphrasing “the aesthetic in the organized home”. The empowering touch comes naturally from you so it’s a given. Just like the clean Scandinavian look and the beauty of simplifying daily chores.

Your books will be a huge success and a turning point in how to live our homes. Just like you’re doing right now.

The Benita Style suits me perfectly.

Congratulations.

Concha

Organising, decorating and making... all around the subject of "living at home". Go Benita go!! :)

kelli

Benita, You are so inspiring. Since seeing your blog, I went to the library and checked out a book on organizing. I have been making a list like yours and I can't believe how much I have accomplished. I have finished painting a room, cleaned and purged toys and books out of my daughter's room (the advice about blank space on a book shelf is overpowering) and much more. I love to see the pictures on your blog. I love the simplicity. I think you should write a book about visual things you know that the rest of us don't and how you made your house so organized and neat.

Liliana Palmas

Dear Benita , my name is Liliana, and I'm italian.Sorry for my English, but is so bad.
I am your fan love everything that you write and photographers, and your blog is fantastic and my favorite.
Congratulations on your work and wishes for your book, that great idea!
If you need an artitist for the illustration of your book, I have graduated in art and love drawing and my husband draws comics.I very happy to do illustrations totally free, just for you.
A PRESTO, kisses, Lilly.

London Mummy

Brilliant idea, I'm fairly new to your blog but am hooked already. Great to meet someone else who has power tools and isn't afraid to use them :) As others have said, so many opportunities. Style on a shoestring, woodworking for girls. creative living - anything along those lines would get my vote!

Danette

I like the "benita all around the house" idea. You could have an emphasis on organinzing, but with your other talents scattered throughout.

I also like the series idea that someone suggested. Maybe a "boxed set" of small handbook style books that are sold together??

Good luck and congratulations!

jame

Benita:

Title: Stockholm Style
Subtitle: with Benita Larsson

(your second book will be "Benita something," when your name is a household word)

Lower half of the cover:
Organizing,
Decorating,
Sewing Patterns, and
Carpentry Plans
for Beginners

(the last two cover basic sewing skills and light build projects, use of tools, which tools, etc.)

Emphasize in your proposal that readers feel a genuine connection with you, your personality shows through your writing in a way that makes readers feel INVITED to participate in the world of organization and home beautification. You're not one of those superior divas---readers are truly encouraged by you and WE DO SO DESPERATELY NEED an encouraging voice!!

Also, I agree that your excellent organizational habits are part of what people crave, as well as the physical organization of your space.

Another possible theme that is unique: white on white...white benefits a small space, but you must learn to live with it successfully. You rotate colors and accessories so well.

So much possibility at the birth of a book idea...I look forward to hearing more about it.

Jame

petrified in pink (Petra)

Benita, I am such a huge fan of yours that I would buy just about any book you wrote. I think you are totally unique with your fantastic sense of organisation and the fact that you and your husband do most of it your self is very inspiring. I love your blog and would love to buy it in book form so it would lay on my table constantly inspiring me to get better at organising the chaotic home of a family with three children and a mother working from home. Good luck to you, I can't wait to see the results!

Kristin

I'm late on this one because I only started reading your blog recently. I love it so much I'm reading old posts!

What really strikes me about your blog is the simplicity of your home. Where I live (East coast of Canada) we have space in abundance. Which means that we have relatively good sized homes. Homes that have lots of room to fill with stuff! What inspires me is how perfectly organized everything is in the space you have which forces you to make decisions about what you choose to keep. I think this enriches your life and keeps you grounded. When we have too much stuff it can contribute to a lack of appreciation for what we have. I think constant prioritization and editing contributes to an environment of appreciation and gratitude. And when you put the heart and soul into it like you do it gives you a whole lot of pride. What a wonderful environment to raise your son! Who seems like a neat kid by the way;)

I love being reminded of the possibilities, I love the way in which you do it and the style you create. This translated into a book with Benita favor would be fabulous!!
