Martin and I are in the process of making a new desk for Wille's room as all three of us agree that the current one isn't practical enough. It used to be in my dad's home office in the days of telex machines and hand yanked cranked copy machines with funny smelling blue print and it's definitely time for an update.
Wille has requested an L-shaped desk with two drawers and all big equipment stashed beneath the desk top.
My idea was for a simple modern chunky square one with two drawers and a pull out section to the side. Dismissed by Wille. Martin's idea was a 30's style desk reminiscent of one his grandfather used to have. Dismissed by me.
Wille and Martin did some more thinking and came up with what we will end up building this coming weekend. L-shaped. Check! Two drawers. Check! Ugly tech stuff underneath. Check!
Here's the thing. My husband is a thinker. I am a doer.
Picture this.
DIY the Martin way
Monday: MDF arrives. Tuesday through Sunday 3.55 pm: No action. Thinking. Sunday 4 pm: Thinking finished. Sunday 4.05 pm: Wants to start cutting. Sunday 4.06: Wife puts foot down says no, wants husband to make dinner. Week over.
DIY the Benita way
Monday: MDF arrives. Tuesday through Thursday: Can't wait to start cutting. Vague idea of what to build. Friday 9 am: In garage. Starts building. Friday 9.30: First mistake. Many more to come. Sunday evening: Desk finished, painted, placed in room, all cables hidded. Lots of MDF wasted.
I don't know which way is the best but I do know that once we both get going we work really well together. Now I just need to whip Martins butt early Saturday morning and maybe there will be a new desk come Sunday. Anyway, I'll keep you posted on the progress.
Also I just wanted to tell you I've just registered my own domain! You will still find me here, at least for now, but you could now enter www.chezlarsson.com in the browser should you want to. Also I have a new e-mail address benita(at)chezlarsson(dot)com. These are all technicalities to you (and you need not even take notice because you can still click the e-mail me link in the side bar) but I feel very grown up all of a sudden. A first for me.
