First of all, you guys are truly the best! You can't imagine how much you helped me by answering my questions yesterday! Your comments really got me thinking and there were quite a few I hadn't thought of! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I'll keep you posted on my progress.
So did you notice the metal boxes above the fridge in the post about my stash the other day?
The area above the fridge was such a waste of space when we bought the house. The existing fridge was just standing on it's own in there with a boarded up hole at the top. We decided that with there not being much storage in the kitchen we'd make better use of the space. Martin almost ripped his hair out by building the walls for the shelves as there was almost nothing to attach anything to up there. It was like doing carpentry in a void. He did a really good job I think and it's now a very usable space. Again, like my little above the door cabinet, not super easy to reach but for things we don't use every day it works perfectly.
Thought I'd show you what's inside.
One metal box contains paper bags, you know the kind that's too nice to toss, like glossy department store one's and nice plain white ones. That's the one labeled "påsar" (= bags).
Then there's one with light bulbs and batteries. Recognize the little divided containers? How great are they for separating the AA's from the fatter batteries and the bulbs that are missing their boxes and preventing everything from rolling around up there?
The third Muck holds our cookie cutters and other baking stuff like cake decorating tips, bags etc. I keep the different "functions" in separate clear plastic bags so I don't have to clean everything before using it. It does get a bit greasy up there with the stove just across. When too greasy, I toss the bag and get a fresh one instead.
The fourth one doesn't have a photo. Why? It's empty! It's been empty for a while and I love the feeling that there's still room to store things should I want or need to. Gotta love empty spaces!
