I've Been Spoilt

Seriously, I must have the best readers!

I love to blog! I love to share what I do around the house with all of you! I get the sweetest e-mails and comments thanking me for apparently helping some of you to get organized. All those comments and e-mails make me so happy and they are more than enough to keep me going but once in a while I get the most amazing real mail. You know the kind that fills your real life mail box in the street?!

About a week ago the 884 page Home Comforts book arrived, sent by Lizzy (Thank you again so much!). I'm on the last pages of my Elisabeth George (nail biting) but I'm diving into this one straight after! I did read the foreword already which is so great, the author Cheryl Mendelson used to keep house on the sly because she was (is) this layer/professor and was supposed to be doing "more important things" than doing laundry. I too would love to do laundry instead of more important things.

 

Today I got two ( 2!) packages in the mail!  

I squeaed with delight (Bonus is my witness) as I opened the first one from Rebekah. The latest issue of one of my absolute favorite magazines, Real Living! Yay! Also in this Aussie package; a gorgeous tea towel, a Bush Botanicals foot care kit (I can certaintly use that after flip-flopping about in the garden), some yummy Caramello Koala sweets and some Butter(!) & Menthol drops (sucking one now). How awesome! Thank you soooooooooooooo much Rebekah!

When I squealed with delight the second time it was because of what was in the second package. Check out all the Martha Craft goodies Jean sent me! Cookie boxes, tissue papers, waxed papers, string, ribbons, stickers and gift bags, everything I could possibly want and more. I love, love, love it! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jean!

Wow, girls, you really spoilt me rotten! It's almost like Christmas but better because it's so unexpected. Ok, I'm off to soak my feet, have a Koala and read about aprons, rags and mops. See you tomorrow!

Wallpapering a Drawer

 

Did you have a good weekend? I sure did. I accomplished so much AND had time to sit in the sun too!

One of the little things I did was to paper Wille's desk drawer. When we built the desk I put down a piece of wrapping paper in there with double stick tape but because of the raw MDF drawer bottom the tape refused to stick to it so I decided to use some left over wall paper and actually stick it down with wall paper paste.

 

I started out by cutting the pieces. I had to do a bit of patching because the pieces I had left over weren't big enough.

 

I then brushed on a coat of wall paper paste first without any paper, to seal the MDF. Once it was dry I then put down a second coat and the wall paper pieces.

 

So easy and effective, love the finished result.

 

I also love the way the colors in the wall paper work with Wille's Eames shell chair. Details, details people!

Oh, if you are wondering what those bent hair clips and paper clips in the little take out container are for, they are Wille's tool kit. He's attempting to pick locks...

Fourth Life

 

This little table has had three lives in our house so far and is now on it's fourth. When we moved in eleven years ago this was the kitchen table where the family of four who were the previous owners used to eat all their meals.

We then used it in the hallway as a desk before we built the home office and bench.

It was then moved downstairs into the boatroom where it was again used it as a desk.

 

In it's fourth life it serves me perfectly as a sideboard in our storage room. You know how when you have a storage room you you just plonk things on the floor and deal with them later?! Well this serves as the catch all now which makes it so much easier to deal with the stuff because it's on a better level.

I love the way I have a work top now where I can take a box down to look inside instead of having to again put it on the floor (which is not the cleanest btw, as this room is right off the garage which is off the garden and we walk with our dirty clogs in here.
