Well if that is what you want to do, and what you need to do, it will be ok. It is a pity about the book, but reading you all days it is ok. You have to do what you feel. And that is enough.

Have a great weekend!

Lisbeth

Have you considered publishing it yourself? I mean, you have a pretty good 'sales window' with this blog, so maybe it's feasible?

Benita ~ Chez Larsson

I have but decided against it. I honestly don't think I can pull it off myself, not with still having a "day job". If I'd had a book deal I would have taken some time off work to finish the book but with working four days a week, blogging five and running a household there's just not enough time to do that as well.

Judith

Good for you! Only you can know what's best to do or not do. But now you have the experience and know what to expect if you ever want to take the plunge again. Hope you enjoy your first weekend of freedom!

Sara

I'm happy for you but sad for us. :) Have a wonderful and stress-free weekend!

quinn

Good for you! Sometimes it's hard to walk away from an opportunity that "looks good on paper" but doesn't feel right.

Happy Freedom Day :)

Patricia

As other have said, glad you are free of your stress, but I'd really love a book!! Perhaps a better opportunity will come up. Have you ever thought of getting in touch with Ryland & Peters? I have seen some of their books - different subjects, but all very good-looking books, very attractive - and I'd have thought you'd be a good match.

Leslie

I'm glad for your relief of the stress. But do you make any money at all from this blog? I hope it doesn't end up costing you anything.. I'm sure you have hosting costs, etc. and I'm hoping you get a small fee for "advertising" or referencing other blogs and sites. Anyway, you definitely have something to celebrate this weekend!!

Kari

I understand completely! The book publishing process is a bear (having lived through it twice via my husband). While I am sorry for us, I am happy you made the decision that is best for you--after all, in the end, we need to be happy with our life choices.

And of course, we still have your blog!

Kari

Stress kills. I've seen it happen to people I cared about and it's NEVER worth it.

I want you to be healthy and happy, firstly. As a bonus, I get to read your blog.

Good health and relationships are more important than anything else. Good call, Benita.

"Have you considered publishing it yourself? I mean, you have a pretty good 'sales window' with this blog, so maybe it's feasible?"

Same idea. And it is nice that you decided to stay loayl to yourself! It is sometimes all we have. But don't give up a book idea forever.

Kelsi Nibbana

Yeah for less stress, but perhaps file the book ideas way far back in a file cabinet somewhere?

Franziska

Oh, that's sad. But if you can't publish the book your way it maybe will be better if you wait a little. Maybe there'll be a chance and you'll say "luckily I parted ways from the publishers in New York".

I wait for new posts about fantastic things you do in your house. I like my daily Larsson :)

Lisa Z

You know when you feel the weight off your shoulders you've made the right decision. You have a lot going on! I feel privileged to read your blog every day, and if things should work out and you someday publish a book, I will buy it. But don't feel obligated! It should be a joy, if it happens.

Benita ~ Chez Larsson

Funny you should say that, they were the first ones I contacted a year ago and we did have some discussions but they fell through. Very nice people though!

Benita ~ Chez Larsson

I do have hosting costs and such but I'm lucky to have a sponsor (and friend) and some other small income from blogging so at least I break even. It doesn't really cover the time spent five days a week but money isn't really why I blog to begin with. It would be nice to earn a bit extra income though :)

And yes, I'm celebrating! Having a sip of my rosé wine as we speak :)

Karen

Enjoy your freedom. We all love your blog and are very grateful for all of the time you put into it. It (you) has really impacted my home and the way I do things. THANKS!

Carol K

You are such a gift, Benita! I am so glad a weight has been lifted. I really understand what that feels like.
You inspire me in so many ways and you give so much!
My wish is for you to have happiness and peace. I read this the other day- what ever we give to others returns to us three fold. I am hoping good things will always come pouring in to you and your family.

Bridget

you gotta do what's right for you :)

Jean

Ditto what Carol K says - your nearly daily doses of inspiration make this world less cluttered, more organized, and a prettier place. Thank you!

camila

Just found your blog so I need to catch up a bit, but I'm happy to read that you are feeling good about this decision.

I'm sure when they right thing comes along you will be ready to roll.

Hope you have a great weekend and enjoy that glass of wine!

chrispito

being true to yourself is best. good for you! you have a partner and family you love, who loves you...that really is the best thing a human can ask for. thanks for your blog!

Karen

The highlight of my evening is sitting down with a glass of wine and reading your blog. I can picture myself living a stress free life in your beautiful home. So you stressing out about the book is not good. The timing is just not right and it takes courage to walk away.

Have you thought of online workshops in simple, clutter free living? I would be among the first to sign up.

Patia

I am so sorry to hear that. I was really looking forward to your book.

BUT I am glad that you are happy with your decision, and that's what matters most.

Teresa

Hello, Benita. Greetings from Lisbon, Portugal.
I recently discovered your blog, and I'm totally in love with it. I would buy your book, I bet all your readers would.
Maybe you just didn't find the right publisher, or the right agent. Or maybe it's not the time just yet.
But I wouldn't give up on the book, oh no.

Petra- Designfragment

Good for you! One should never ever do something that doesn't feel 100 %. Don't worry, your chance will come, you are such a talent!

I've been away, so I'm chiming in late. But I just wanted to add to what the others have said. You definitely made the right decision! You need to trust your instincts, & the fact that you felt so relieved after parting company shows you made the right choice.

I learned this lesson the hard way once with a job. I tried for it, but when I got the call saying I didn't get it, I felt so relieved! But a couple of years later it was offered to me, & I felt that I needed to face my fears, take on more responsibility, etc etc--so I took it. Disaster. So, although I would have been first in line to buy your book, I'm just thrilled for you that you realized it wasn't the right thing for you AND ACTED on that realization!
