Oh boy! When we moved in the inside of our basement garage was pink (quite odd considering the family before us consisted of three men and one woman). After a few years of cringing everytime I went into my flesh colored space I repainted it white. No surprise.
I never quite finished the doors though. Something or other always got in the way. I got as far as removing some dingy old wall paper covering the masonite board and I started scraping the wood but then it came to a halt.
Brown masonite board, "recent" (30 year old) green paint, original 70 year old grey paint, some (by us) added bare strips of wood to allow the doors to be closed but blocking out cold air. All in all a lovely combo.
Because Martin was laid off from his job in the printing industry back in spring due to the economy we are on a major (or should I say minor) budget and I wanted to check if there was any paint left over in our stash that could do the job of sprucing up the doors.
Some years ago we were trying out a different interior design scheme for one of the brands I worked for at the time. We test painted some panels and afterward I rescued the left over paint cans. They've been sitting in the garage ever since as they are not colors I would usually go for in our home. I decided it was worth a try to mix them all together. Worst case scenario was that I wouldn't like it and would have to buy a can.
Check out the awesome greige! Martin and I agree it's the best warm grey color ever and we're getting some mixed to repaint some other stuff in the basement too! What an unexpected (and zero $) surprise!
Ha! The difference is amazing! I had some lining paper left over from the boat room reno and used it to cover the masonite panels which I then painted white (left over from the bathroom ceiling a few weeks ago). I cleaned up the old hardware and hey presto! As good as new! Or better! There was even enough paint left over to do a couple of windows too!
Don't you just love a thrifty makeover?!
