I got an e-mail from Arzu the other day and the question she asked has been asked before so I guess I should post about it. She wrote:
I was just curious to find out how you categorize and organize your bookmarks in your internet browser.
I have been using Mozilla Firefox browser for years on my Mac at home and PC at work with the Xmarks extension which works really well to synchronize the bookmarks. But my bookmarks folders are just like a closet that you throw stuff in (not you of course:-) ) and getting pretty chaotic. I also use Google reader for my blog reading which helps keep digital clutter down quite a bit, but maybe there are better ones out here that I don't know about.
Any ideas? Suggestions?
Well I can only show you how I do it, I'm not saying this is the perfect way but it works for me.
* I try to keep the loose links to a minimum because they do tend to just clutter the space up. The loose links are the ones I use all the time like Flickr, Typepad etc.
* I mostly use caps which I find are easier to read.
* I often (not always) rename links so I'll know what they are.
* If I have a project going on where I need access to a lot of links (such as redesigning my blog) I make a folder for it and subfolders so it will be easier to find what I want.
* I don't add blogs to read but save them in Bloglovin' (marked as Bloggkoll in my bookmarks) and read them there instead. I love Bloglovin'. Btw, here's a pretty organizing blog I discovered the other day that you can add to your reader!
* I purge my bookmarks on a regular basis.
Hope this helps!
