This is the type of Rose I’ve just bought for the front of the house. I wanted a white climber and have heard it’s a good one, White New Dawn. Image source
This little puny thing is my rose. It flew over from Denmark in a plastic bag in a box and waited for me at the post office on Friday.
As you can see I need some sort of a barrier between me and the neighbors after I ripped out all the prickly bushes that once stood where the concrete steps are now. Don’t get me wrong, my neighbors are really, really nice, but we need a little something in between us.
This or something similar is what I have in mind and the plan is that the rose will climb up it. I’ll probably paint mine white though. Image source
The trellis won’t get done until next year though and that’s also when I plan to build a square planter and place it on the concrete there at the end. It it I will probably plant a Buxus on a stem. which will look nice against the white wall.
For the time being my little rose won’t need much support. She’s tiny. To disguise that ugly drainpipe behind her I planted an Ivy which I got from my new neighbor who had too many (Tack, Kerstin!). Love how it covers it so well already.
And wiiiie, it’s Friday! Have a great weekend!

Fin helg!

It is going to look very pretty. Some trellis will look great next year.

Great idea Benita! Have a nice weekend :-)

Love New Dawn! It's going to look so pretty climbing that trellis next year. Polstjärnan is also a really productive climber and has beautiful flowers, if you're ever looking for other whities - that's next on our planting list.

The rose will look so sweet in a few years. Hope it gets on with the growth nicely.
The trellis idea sound superb.

Hi Benita, I'm going to New York soon and I remembered you had a post about your trip there with Wille and on the comments there were some pretty good travel tips, like one tip about a diner. If I remember correctly the post itself had a picture of Wille jumping high in the air in a candy store (maybe). I searched your travel category posts but did not seem to find that spesific post. If you happen to know which one I mean, could you help me with a link there?

Lovely rose, will look beautiful the more it grows. :-)

Thank you! That was the post I was looking for, but unfortunately I had remembered wrong and the comments rich in ideas were in some other post. Well I will keep looking, going through your posts in never a drag :)

I like the trellis. The white rose is beautiful. It must be a rosy Friday - I also posted a photo of a rose (pink) :-). Have a great weekend.

I love love love the trellis! So going to steal that for my balcony!

White New Dawn pairs really well with purple clematis. I have done that in my yard on a trellis. they are beautiful together.

Ps, the pairing original came from Martha S.

Try using the search button on the side. It's pretty good, I used it all the time :)

It sounds like you have given this a lot of thought. Will you let the ivy grow and do its thing? Or will it go once the rose starts to grow in??
Posted by: homestilo | October 07, 2011 at 02:50 PM
I love ivy so I will let it grow. Hopefully they will enjoy each other :).

I don't think so but it's a good one :).

Jag planterade en New Dawn i somras och de växer snabbt! Den är redan en meter hög från att ha varit mindre än din... Så var beredd på växtkraft när våren kommer! :)

It will grow really quickly and you will be surprised how fast a small own root rose becomes a BIG climber. I had one New Dawn White that I put in a year ago and it was even smaller than yours; at the end of this growing season it is already about 6 feet tall/long.
You will love this rose!

Are you worried about the ivy taking over? Ivy took over our backyard, and it was really hard to get rid of. I do like ivy covered houses, but I don't like ivy covered plants.

Det låter lovande!

A little bit but since this is next to the entry door I'll be able to supervise my Ivy and make sure it goes where I want (mainly hiding the drain pipe).

Your new neighbors are so lucky to have someone who makes their home look so cool and beautiful!

Just what I´ve been thinking about - there must be a couple of neighbours who are quite amazed about B´s progress, I know I would have been. It´s so much fun to follow her work.

Have you considered painting the trellis in a dark shade of green, instead of white? I think it would look even lovelier.

I have, but since the door is green I think I want to keep the trellis white. But who knows, I may change my mind later :).
