Wow! Thank you so much for all those answers to my question yesterday. I loved reading them all, you are so sweet!
So after that, on to today's post:
I don’t have a whole lot of storage in the kitchen and having given up the pantry downstairs in favor of storing other things there I needed somewhere to keep my wine. See that middle basket there? That’s where!
First I just placed the bottles in the basket but soon realized that they would rattle against each other in there so I cut some cardboard pieces to size and cut slots so they all fit into each other like a puzzle. If you buy whole boxes of wine there are already dividers in those boxes similar to these so you might be able to use them but I made my own.
And here’s what that looks like. The height of this basket is perfect for wine bottles. I’m sure that you probably have higher standards for storing wine (if it’s red or white and not too sweet I’ll drink it…) but this works great for me.
Skål!
Ps. Have you seen today's date? Are you superstitious?
Pps. Happy weekend!

Vi har besiktning av huset...hade kanske föredragit ett annat datum! Trevlig helg.

Very clever idea!
Not superstitious no. It's also my daughter's 13th birthday today so if I was superstitous, I'd be in a frenzy. Since it's already 6pm in Australia (Melbourne time), the day is nearly over - so far nothing bad has happened.
Hold thumbs! Lol.

Great idea. Today is my birthday so definitely not supersitious. Haha
Posted by: er | January 13, 2012 at 07:52 AM
So funny, er. Today is my birthday too! So it's been on a Friday many, many times, and generally, it's a good day. Happy birthday to us! Benita, what a great place for your wine. I'm not a wine drinker, but it looks great!
Posted by: Julie | January 13, 2012 at 08:16 AM
oh, and to your daughter too, Robyn! Is there some reason we're all drawn to this blog? Hmmmm, something to ponder...

I am not superstitious. I like Fridays regardless of the date. Trevlig helg!

Pretty good idea, have a nice weekend! And: Cheers!
Posted by: Natalia | January 13, 2012 at 08:55 AM
Hope you do not store them very long in the upright position, or the corks will dry and the wine goes bad... So drink them up, fast, and keep the stock fresh! :)
Posted by: Pixie | January 13, 2012 at 09:03 AM
Hej,
Your creativity to solving problems is what I like about you, your blog and my family's country. I even worked there marketing wine, which makes me want to add a comment about wine storage. Bottles should be stored on their side in order to not dry out the cork. Perhaps the basket should be tipped, unless of course the wine is for immediate consumption! A votre santé!

;) Hihihi!

You are so "fiffig"! I think that friday 13th is great days!

It's my birthday as well, not superstisious at all, I think 13 so far always brought me luck.
Great wine storage Ikea, khm, idea ;)!

Another clever storage idea from Ms Benita!
Posted by: Carin | January 13, 2012 at 10:51 AM
Don't worry, wine never lasts that long in my house :). Also most corks are plastic nowadays anyway. As you can provbably tell I'm not a wine afficionado...
Posted by: Benita ~ Chez Larsson | January 13, 2012 at 12:24 PM
I'm not keeping it to age it. It will be drunk soon :)

Happy Birthday to you tooooooooooo!
Posted by: Benita ~ Chez Larsson | January 13, 2012 at 12:26 PM
I'm not superstitious at all. I think that what has to happen, will happen no matter what day of the month is. About your post, it's curious how it works for wine storage. I think I will use this idea at home :). Have a nice day!

Is this the model of the basket where the bottom stays where it is supposed to be when you lift it and happen to put your hand under the basket? The non-foldable older model, right? The newer ones drives me nuts. Have both models. Prefer the old one.
Personally I store my wine (when I have bottles and not boxes) in a BESTÅ cupboard in the living room. In a white metal wine-rack that just happened to be the perfect size (have had that for decades, think it is from IKEA). The depth of the BESTÅ cup-board is perfect for the length of lying wine-bottles.

Is it nnot to warm place for wine? If you plan to store it there for more then couple of weeks.
I was told it should be dark and cold place, like basement.
Have a nice weekend.

Like I said, I'm sure you all have higher standards for wine and the storage there of but this works for me.

Love how Bonus is supervising the booze. Such a dude! :-)
Posted by: Shana | January 13, 2012 at 01:21 PM
Yes, this is the old version that you bought intact, no assembly needed.
Posted by: Benita ~ Chez Larsson | January 13, 2012 at 01:22 PM
Very clever! I have the newer bottom flips baskets. And I also use them to hide the kids toys. They would be very surprised to pull out a basket and find something like this!!
I am trying not to be superstitious - but I am a New England Yankee! Ahh! Can't help it! And we are driving up to the Adirondacks today . . . .

My daughter turns 13 on Friday in April! :) She considers 13 her LUCKY number. I joked that we should have a "Bad Luck" party and her friends are loving the idea - one of the particularly well-behaved girls is hoping to break some mirrors. :)
Posted by: Kate | January 13, 2012 at 01:39 PM
Smart!
Posted by: Anna | January 13, 2012 at 01:45 PM
What a great idea ... wine close at hand and yet neatly tucked away.
I love the foto of Bonus (the handsome boy) guarding the wine?
Enjoy your weekend.
PS - Do you have any snow? We just had 15 cm/6 in of snow last night. Now, it's raining and +8C (what a strange winter).

Ja, det var ju klurigt. Själv dricker jag inte vin och har således bara en flaska för matlagning då och då i kylskåpet, men tipset ska jag komma ihåg om någon annan behöver hjälp!
Posted by: Monnah | January 13, 2012 at 03:41 PM
Looks fabulous to me! I'm all about hiding stuff & displaying simple knicknacks that are unique ( as opposed to looking @ something like a bottle of wine).
Have a fab weekend Benita!

Not at all superstitious. Why should we be? Everyday is a gift from God and God don't make mistakes. Enjoy the day (and every other day) to the fullest.
Posted by: Karen J | January 13, 2012 at 04:08 PM
This post is a perfect example of why I love and read your blog. It's a clever idea. I don't even drink wine but I'm sure I'll use the principle in another way. Thank you! So apparently the 13th is not just an American superstition! But no, I am not superstitious.

What a great idea for 'point of use' wine storage. I totally get wanting to have it easily accessible! We have a storage room under our garage that's perfect for wine - dark and cool. But when I want a bottle of wine at 8pm, I really don't want to venture out there to dig around for a bottle. For wine that isn't going to be sitting around a long time, this is a great solution! Out of the way -- but handy in case of a wine emergency.
Posted by: Vickie | January 13, 2012 at 09:35 PM
that's a great idea! looks a lot nicer than shoving the whole cardboard case into the expedit.
Posted by: dawn | January 13, 2012 at 10:08 PM
See this is the classy way of hiding wine, not in your underwear drawers or where your mum won't look!

Hi Benita,
I didn't get a chance to respond to your question yesterday, but wanted to say that I love all of it, especially ones like this one that I can put to use pretty easily in my own home. You are such an inspiration!!
Thanks for everything you do and share with us!

I worked in a winery and the wines might be held in bottle for a while before selling. During bottle process, bottles are simply put into the case upside down. Sidewise is for display, but upside down will work in her current system (in case a bottle lingers longer than expected!)

I also did not respond yesterday but I love all your postings!....about anything and everything!......they give me incentive!!!......am with you on the wine issue......red or white and not too sweet I will drink it!......I buy it in (horrors!!) boxes!!.....

Off topic comment - How was sleeping in the downstairs room while your mom was there? Warm enough? Quiet enough? How was your mom about sleeping in the nook?

God morgon Benita! Vilken fin idé! Mina vinflaskor står på kylskåpet vilket inte är så bra.

I spy on your bookshelf a book called 'homekeeping handbook' - who is it by if you don't mind me asking?

It was great sleeping downstairs, only the bed is very narrow and I had Bonus with me every night :). I'm actually considering setting up my bedroom down there permanently. The space is there and it's quite cosy! Mom enjoyed my nook. I though she might feel it odd to sleep "in the living room" but she didn't at all.
Posted by: Benita ~ Chez Larsson | January 14, 2012 at 05:59 PM
I buy boxes too sometimes :)
Posted by: Benita ~ Chez Larsson | January 14, 2012 at 05:59 PM
I love your idea. And I am with you, as everyone says to keep the wine on it's side to keep the cork wet, but I do not store my wine for long periods of time either. Skoal to you for such a clever idea. It is so cool that the height worked out otherwise you would have to switch to vodka or beer!
Posted by: Robin | January 14, 2012 at 06:36 PM
I love your standards for wine. ;-)
If it fits so nicely standing up, and the space is square, it fits really nice lying down, too, doesn't it? You'd need something a bit more sturdy than cardboard but it would look nice and it would be easy to see what you've got and even easier to grab.

Systemsbolaget sells wine with plastic corks nowadays? In any case, I overlooked your creative way of solvign the problem with a puzzle model. skål!

Yes, at least in the cheaper wine category :).
