Painted Plates

Here’s another fun craft I did using the Martha Stewart Crafts paints from the goodie box I received.

 

It’s so simple. I just painted the backs of some charity shop finds in three different hues of the satin paint.

 

Two coats was all it took. I used a sponge brush to apply and left each coat to dry over night.

 

The paint’s even dish washer safe on glass!

I have the REAL Ultima Thule plates...and still thinking about painting them after reading this!! Don´t like the glass-look...so why not? ;)

The plates Benita painted look to me like everyday tempered glass dinnerware (like Pyrex or Luminarc dinnerware series); they were very popular in Europe... many years ago (how old I am!). Sure I will try this if I could find some.

Helena, I was not aware Ultima Thule series had plates, apart from the big serving platter. Now Iittala doesn't sell them :-( You're lucky.
I'm sure many people will faint if you paint them!!

I didn't even know there were copies around of Ultima Thule plates, to me these ones look like the real thing- how do you tell the difference? Would be good to know, since I look out for the real thing in flea markets.

When I grew up, we had the Ultima Thule glasses and assiettes. But about 4 years ago I cleared a lot of stuff out, and yep, I chucked the assiettes, because I didn't like them. One of my not so clever clear outs, considering what they cost on E-bay now.

Now having looked online and realizing there were plates available in the past (I also thought they only made the glasses, bowls and the big serving dish) I think these might be the real deal after all! Anyway, I don't care, I like them painted :). I only paid about 2 dollars each and it was a fun project.

I have never bought stuff from Martha Stewart and I guess the only way to get hold of this paint is through her webshop, right? Or do they have them in any store in Stockholm?

ah. i love the white. i love glass tiles and plates and other things where the back is painted. i have some vintage glassware i'm going to have a go at. must look for that paint! yay!

Yay! I've just finished reading all the archives. it took something like four months, but I am now all caught up. I am now shopping for plates (I have a rather clumsy eight-year-old, husband & father), and was decided on simple and mostly white, stuck only on why the plates are SO big! The bowls and cups, too... now, clearly, I have to expand the search to glass. that said, what color is that lightest called? I couldn't tell on the website. thanks!

The colors I used are Sea Lavender, Surf and Mint with Sea Lavender being the lightest one.

Back in the early ’90’s I used to follow Martha’s cookbooks and magazines, but as time moved on, I realized the things created and represented in her books were not as important as the people who were around me.
I’d also read somewhere, that Martha regretted not spending enough time with her only child, Alexis.
I used to create things, paint, sew, knit, crochet, cook, etc. and still do. But the question that stood out the most while I was spending my time on projects was what truly holds value in one’s life. Is it the people or things?
No matter how well organized one is with their home and life, nothing compares to the enjoyment of people who are real and true, no matter how they dress or talk or eat or clean or organize their homes, etc.
Over the years, the best people I came across were the ones who were a little disorganized but had a brilliant mind. ~A true conversation with meaning and thought provoking ideas and questions.
Don’t get me wrong, I do like decorating but only on special occasions because it’s nice to stage the home with Christmas décor, Halloween décor, etc. from time to time.
I’m not an extreme organizer or a neat freak. I think “living” means a home should be lived in with people who sometimes misplace a coffee mug here or there or school bags blocking the front door way, etc.
I do like your colour choices, their sort of like “Spring Time” colours. You have a nice blog, neatly organized and well put together too.
I like dropping by your blog from time to time to get ideas of how to.
I’ve read your likes and dislikes and thought the last one on the list to be very funny.
I for one do not have a tattoo, because my body was created especially by God and wouldn’t want to destroy it in any way, and I don’t think your friend Martin who got his tattoo from being the seaman back in the mid ‘70’s forgot you either. I think Martin recalled your image forever.
